January 3rd, 2010

It's the last day of Christmas break, and I am not happy about it. I have exams coming up next week, so I may be scarce for a little while -- I'll be doing much library-lurking in an effort to survive Calculus and Bio.

Also, why so cold, Ohio? I got up this morning and it was two degrees. TWO DEGREES, with a NEGATIVE WINDCHILL. That's just messed-up. On the bright side I totally have a new CD of U2 remixes that will entertain me through the coming weeks. This is really becoming a problem -- I now have 150+ songs of theirs on my iPod, and am literally running out of room. I may upload a few later for you guys so that I feel justified in my constant rambling about them. Or something. Sigh. Being a crazy stan is hard work. :P

Here, have a meme [info]fialleril  tagged me for. You've seen it before, but I'm up for another round.

Leave a comment saying "resistance is futile" and I'll ask you five questions. Repost the answers in your journal.

1. Have I convinced you to join Trek fandom yet? (If not, what are you waiting for?!)
Yes. I'm still tentatively playing in the tidepools of this obscenely huge ocean of a fandom, but suffice to say I'm intrigued enough to be sticking around. It satisfies my need for team!genfic.
2. Do you have a favorite character archetype?
I'm rusty on the archetype front -- you lookin' for Jungian, or what? I tend to like the Cool Mentor types (think Qui-Gon Jinn, Sirius Black, John Locke), some Badass Immortals (Richard Alpert and Jacob&Esau from Lost, certain rock stars in a certain way), Scientists (Daniel Faraday, Rodney McKay, Tony Stark, etc). Is there a category for prodigal sons or wanderers? I love them too because I...kind of identify with them.
3. Treasure Planet!Jim Hawkins = pirate!Anakin: T or F?
T TO THE MILLIONTH DEGREE.
4. Qui-Gon Jinn or Benjamin Linus?
As a human being, Qui-Gon. We'd be friends. As a character, Ben. We wouldn't be friends, but he's endlessly fascinating.
5. What inspires you to write fanfic?
All sorts of things. Sometimes it's just a way for me to share my love of an element of fandom, sometimes it's an experimental way to try and understand a character better, sometimes it's just me playing with ideas.

January 2nd, 2010

So while I was out the internet apparently decided to explode, and I am still trying to read/comment on all the lovely things you've put up, flist. I'm workin' on it, bear with me.

My recent excursion back to North Cackalacky was fabulous. Among other things, I:

+ watched (and subsequently WTFed over) Donnie Darko (will someone PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THE HELL THAT WAS.)
+ fangirled Adam Lambert and his utterly inappropriate/appealing dance moves
+ realized that I (improbably) ship said Lambert/Lady Gaga
+ reunited with my beloved England Trip partner to criticize truly hideous jumpsuit/artificial-yeti-fur-vest outfits at the mall
+ had unhealthy amounts of caffeine and was force-fed much delicious food (and also champagne, come New Years Eve) by everybody's mother
+ exploded several glowsticks
+ dealt with my bros making disturbing/hilarious/completely raunchy slashtastic remarks about the pair of fine fellows in my icon
+ did not sleep at all.

Also, some New Year's Resolutions, albeit a day late:

+ Stay present.
+ Take care of myself.
+ Avoid bitterness.

I'm off to bed. Hope you guys had fun today/last night/whenever, depending on your time zone -- I know I did, and it was good to go home.

Avatar: Ferngully/Pochahontas/Atlantis the Lost Empire/Dances With Wolves in space, starring blue furries and apparently some racefail. Seeing it in 3D was definitely worth it, and I would have killed to be part of the design team -- absolutely gorgeous creature/environment design, and I'd love to see the concept art. The plot was possibly the most predictable thing ever, and I will avoid a discussion of the racefail here because lord knows enough people are up in flames over it already, but for sheerly aesthetic purposes this movie was hard to beat.

Sherlock Holmes: Not a particularly traditional Holmes, but because my only mental image of Holmes (regrettably) is as Basil of Baker Street (yes, The Great Mouse Detective, hush), I was not bothered by this much, especially since I love RDJ. The villian wasn't terribly imposing and I had a few bones to pick with a few plot points, but overall it was a fun movie. And dear God, the slash writes itself -- I am not much of a shipper and lose my slash goggles on a regular basis, but I will swear that Holmes was undeniably in love with Watson here, which entertained me greatly.

Both of these, IMHO, are worth seeing. Neither are particularly deep, but if you need entertaining, go for it. :)

Feliz Navidad!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Merry Christmas, darlings! Hope your day has been wonderful. I feel slightly bad for not having any epically beautiful fanworks to post like the rest of you (seriously, guys, I've spent the past hour reading various Yuletide fics, and you've outdone yourselves), so, um, have a Christmas!Bono.

By the by, [info]fialleril , [info]layrenelement and [info]elliotsmelliot , I got your cards the other day. They're beautiful, thank you! Oh, by the way, expect yours in the...near future? Chances are they'll be a bit late, hehheh. Apologies all around!

Off to play Sims 3 (haha!) with the fam. Have a merry Christmas, peeps. <3
